MATERNITY SESSION INFO.

When to Schedule

Maternity sessions can take place anywhere between 24 and 34 weeks gestation. You want to have a nice round belly but still feel like yourself. You also do not want to cut it too close in case baby decides to make an early arrival.

The Session

As for what to wear, I recommend a top that you not only feel comfortable in but one that hugs the belly. You want to show off that baby belly and be proud of your shape. Some women are not comfortable showing off bare skin for any of the shots but I highly recommend it since the time being pregnant is so fleeting and despite it’s issues is also pretty amazing. I will also minimize the look of any stretch marks or darkened spots so that your skin tone looks even and perfect. I recommend that the mom-to-be bring several shirt or sweater choices, one of which can be opened at the front to show off the belly. I also bring along several wraps and fabric for draping over your gorgeous shape.

NEWBORN SESSION INFO.

When to Schedule

As the number of sessions available per month is limited, I encourage you to book your session as early in your pregnancy as possible in order to guarantee a space. Most clients contact me early in their second trimester so as to be able to secure their estimated session date based on their due date. Once your baby arrives, contact me as soon as possible so we can schedule a time in the studio within the first 14 days after your little one arrives. Sessions are best when baby is just 4-12 days new. Why so soon after their arrival? Within those first 2 weeks your baby is typically still very sleepy and curly. After 2 weeks they start to stretch out and lose their womb-like behaviour. Ultimately, the younger the better. New babies change every day and we want to capture all of the sweet newborn attributes before fade away.  Also, younger infants tend to sleep better while being positioned and re-positioned, and we want them to sleep as much as possible.

The Session

As babies are so perfect and new, bare skin is ideal therefore we will be doing most all sleepy shots in their birthday suit. Please make sure your newborn has a VERY FULL belly before you leave to come to the studio. The full belly is to ensure that once you get to my studio we can start right with posing.  If you can keep your newborn up for 1-2 hours before coming that would help to make them a little sleepier for the session. When you arrive to the studio leave your newborn in their car seat and I will be in charge when you come in. Mommies and daddies get t o sit on the sofa in the studio during the session and myself and my assistant will do all of the work required so that we can keep your newborn peaceful. If they smell or hear you, that can make them restless and harder to pose as their drive to eat is so strong!  If your newborn needs to feed during the session, there is a private space to use if needed, or if you bring a bottle then we can feed your newborn so that there is less disruption for them. Also please bring a soother for soothing throughout the session. The studio is set to approx. 30 degrees so make sure to dress lightly. If you get too warm in the studio, feel free to step out to the main room or outside to cool off!  Again, your newborn needs to have a FULL belly before coming to the studio. I’m very good with newborns, so you will get a nice little break.  The session will take approx 2.5- 3 hours, so please bring snacks, beverages, reading material, your laptop and/or IPOD to pass the time while you relax. Since this session is all about your new baby, please leave any other children with a friend or family member for the duration of the session (or if they are to participate have another family member come by to pick them up after their images are captured).
